THE USE OF TECHNOLOGY OF DEVELOPING CRITICAL THINKING THROUGH READING AND WRITING IN TERMS OF EDUCATIONAL TRENDS OF TEACHING READING IN THE GERMAN DIDACTICS

Annotation

The article deals with the technology of critical thinking development through reading and writing which are seen as elements of the coherent system of work with information in the course of reading in the German language. The technology is aimed at the development of critical thinking and creative abilities of pupils. The article covers the main educational trends in teaching reading from the point of view of the German didactics. Special attention is paid to the connection of reading as a type of speech activity to the technology of critical thinking development through reading and writing, with concepts of meta-cognitive skills and reflection. The authors provide examples of teaching methods, such as “cluster”, “fish-bone” and “sequence” used in teaching reading in German.
