THE FORMATION OF THE LINGUASEMIOTIC THEORY OF SLANG AS THE PHENOMENON OF THE CODED COMMUNICATION

Annotation

The article is devoted to the investigation of the coded nature of slang and presents a new approach to the study of nonstandard language units. Traditionally slang is viewed as a linguistic phenomenon of social character, which main function is expressive and emotional. The existing works on slang do not bring about order or unity in terminology. We try to investigate sign nature of slang and to analyse slang problems from semiotic point of view. Communication is capable of generating such signs which can be understood and interpreted only by members of separate social groups, who “agreed” to use meanings which are deeply coded for the “strangers”. In our understanding slang is a “subsign” which is used to designate an object, phenomenon or process of objective reality in order to socialize the one who applies to it. So we can speak about slang as a specific linguosemiotic communication code or system of codes.
