Восковская Людмила Васильевна
Дыхан Лариса Борисовна
Каменская Елена Николаевна

Annotation

The article reefers to gender manipulation as a kind of manipulation targeted at gender characteristics and gender roles of communication participants. In this respect, activities of the manipulator cause the person addressed to meet (or be afraid that he/ she does not meet) common ideas about male or female behavior. The main means of gender manipulation include gender stereotypes about behavior patterns which match “male” or “female” roles, stereotypes about “masculine” or “feminine” conduct, ideas about male and female jobs and certain stereotypes connected with family roles of men and women. By using them, manipulator urges the target of manipulation to follow the standard patterns. The article reveals connection between high level of aptitude to gender manipulation and low level of personal maturity, high level of susceptibility to gender stereotypes, low level of empathy and self-centeredness.
