INSTITUTIONALIZATION OF GENDER APPROACH IN PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION: FROM HISTORY TO THE PRESENT

Annotation

The article deals with the gender approach in professional education as a historical and socio-cultural phenomenon. The author describes the main periods and stages of institutionalization of gender approach in relation to post-industrial concept of development of society. Gender approach in education is explained by criticism of the existing patriarchal stereotypes created by philosophical theories of gender and fixed by general scientific theories of sex-role patterns. The author proves that formation and institutionalization of gender approach includes three periods corresponding to historical development of society in professional education. The first, preindustrial period, refers to patriarchal tradition which still exists in the form of stereotypes at some institutions of higher education.
