COMMUNICATIVE APPROACH TO TEACHING LISTENING IN A FOREIGN LANGUAGE

Annotation

Ability to understand a person speaking a foreign language is a crucial skill in any communication. The given article deals with listening as one of the most complex skills in teaching English as a second language. The author describes cognitive aspects of listening and states the main problems and solutions of teaching listening as a real communicative skill. The emphasis is put on the meaningful and motivated use of language by the people who communicate in order to achieve a certain goal. The paper describes the procedure of an efficient listening lesson and suggests some activities that might be used to develop listening as a significant part of communicative competence.
