BOLOGNA UNIVERSITY AS ONE OF THE MAIN CENTERS OF SELF-ORGANIZATION OF THE ITALIAN SCIENTIFIC COMMUNITY IN THE MIDDLE AGES

Annotation

The article deals with development of the model of self-organization of scientific community in Italy in the Middle Ages. The author describes transition from the institutional forms of the Antiquity Era, with its brightest embodiment of Plato’s Academy in Athens, to universities as the key scientific and educational centers of the Middle Ages among which Bologna University being the first and most representative one. The most important elements of social, cultural and economic infrastructure of Bologna University, relationships between students and professors, organizational forms and methods used for protection of their interests are analyzed. The author proves the importance of such factors, as corporate culture, ethnic origin, catholic outlook, etc., in genesis of scientific community in the considered time span.
