FORMATIVE FUNCTION OF MATHEMATICS IN GENERAL EDUCATION

Annotation

According to the article, if arranged in the right way, mathematical activity has a huge educational potential for training specialists with the developed rational thinking and understanding of the value of scientific knowledge, for improving their behavior. The article touches upon the main aspects of educational function of mathematics in general education. The authors provide retrospective comparative analysis of works of the famous mathematicians that reveal contradictions of the developing training and humanistic education in the course of mathematical activity. As for the most productive ways of realization of formative function, the authors of article offer the following ones: development of the valuable attitude to mathematical methods, use of mathematical methods as the background that shapes world outlook, the influence on the logic of thought, formation of personal qualities, development of ability to overcome difficulties and ability to work in a team.
