Annotation

The authors argue that communicative competence is an integral part of both the existing model of relationship between people in present reality and of social capital. The main structural components of social capital, such as social networks, trust, general social norms and values are formed and developed due to the existed communicative competence. Language is the tool by which social groups keep their congenital culture and maintain their traditions. Foreign communicative competence gives an individual the chance to increase his/her social capital and be socialized in a new society that speaks another language. In order to create the social capital significant in new linguistic community and be able to use it efficiently, a person has to possess well shaped communicative competence which enables him to avoid “a language ghetto”, language isolation from native speakers in the new language space.
