Annotation

The article is devoted to the civic education in the USA, its establishment and development. It describes different stages of the transformation of its idea on the basis of ethnical diversity of American society and difference in attitudes to the system of education and its role in different historical periods. It also describes the changes in the understanding of the civic education on the government level. The author also analyses the social demands and their influence on the school policy in general as well as on the policy of civic education.
