LIFESTYLE OF A “REAL" MAN: SUBSTANTIAL FEATURES AND REFERENT IMAGES

Annotation

The article covers students’ ideas about lifestyle of a “real” man. The author states that, when asked about lifestyle of a real “man”, the interviewed young people men­tion two models of masculine nature - traditional and Western consumer-oriented, traditional model prevailing. First of all, hobbies of a man should include sports (going in for and watching), fishing and hunting (i.e. a traditional component). Mo­dern gadgets, fitness-clubs, concerts and entertaining events (consumer component) are presented in normative construct of a man’s life style in second turn. Dependence on mass-media propagation of certain style of consumption and way of life seen as behavioral pattern of “successful” masculine nature is revealed by the author.
