ERSONAL AND SOCIAL DETERMINATION OF ATTRACTIVENESS

Annotation

The article deals with dependence of interpersonal attitudes on attractiveness of interaction participants. It is shown that personal and formal relations of a person can have positive, negative and indifferent character. The issue of attractiveness is proved to be relevant in connection with its importance and contextual inclu­sion in other personal phenomena. The article covers some results of cross-cultural researches which have allowed the author to reveal existing in many countries discrimination against people due to their appearance and age as well as depen­dence of attractiveness on the economic status of the country. It is shown that evolutionary-psychological theories prevail while explaining female appeal. As for male attractiveness, dominating paradigm is socially-constructivist. The author draws a conclusion that attractiveness is a significant component of interpersonal interaction, its result and mechanism.
