AMBIVALENT INFLUENCE OF NARCISSISM: DIFFICULTIES IN BUILDING UP POSITIVE INTERPERSONAL RELATIONS

Annotation

The article analyses narcissism as socially-psychological phenomenon. It deals with its sources and relevance of the idea contained in the myth about Narcissus. The authors refer to Z.Freud’s statement that a child should necessarily pass the narcissism phase of libido development which does not cause any harm if the person develops normally. The authors concentrate on description of character displays of narcissus-like persons and their influence on building u relations with themselves and other people. Psychiatric and healthy interpretation of narcissism is given. Questions which cause the sharpest discussions among scientists, clinical physicians and practicing psychologists are mentioned. It is shown that the strategy of narcissuses behavior greatly depends on the stage of interpersonal attitudes and relations.
