GENDER COMPETENCE OF A TEACHER

Annotation

On the basis of the analysis of the concepts of competence in Russian and foreign research the article looks at the problem the gender competence development of a modern teacher. The gender competence of a teacher assumes not only the knowledge of the psychological basics of gender differences, the critical attitude to a number of assumptions accepted in the traditional psychological and sociological gender research, and also to one’s own understanding of men’s and women’s social roles, bur also a certain combination of skills, purposeful actions focused on the formation of the educational space which will provide equal rights and opportunities for pupils of both sexes. The teacher’s awareness of the role of education in gender socialisation and also the necessity of gaining theoretical knowledge and practical skills promotes the introduction of gender sensitive strategy into teaching and educational process.
