THE MODERN MATHEMATICS TEXTBOOK AS AN ELEMENT OF CULTURE

Annotation

The article is devoted to non-formal requirement to the textbook on Mathematics, i.e. to be an element of culture. This requirement implies two other demands: the Mathematics textbook is reflection of the cultural role of Mathematics; the textbook is itself a cultural event. Mathematics being included into the Federal Educational Standard for humanitarian students proves the necessity of paying special attention in textbooks to the place and cultural role of Mathematics. It is mentioned that in textbooks available today only the application role of Mathematics is reflected. The article contains examples how epigraphs and literary quotations are used in textbooks. It does not only enliven the textbook, but also promotes perception of the teaching material.
