Annotation

The article raises the questions of vocational training of scientific and pedagogical staff of Russian engineering institutions. The main difficulties of professional work of a teacher in conditions of innovative changes of the system of higher technical education are analyzed. Modern requirements to professionalism of a higher school teacher in Russia and abroad are stated. On the basis of the all-round analysis of existing models of professional competence in pedagogy, on the one hand, and experimental work, on the other, the author outlines the key components of professional-pedagogical competence of a teacher of engineering institutions. The author describes the following core competencies: engineering-technological, didactic and methodical, psychological. The author proves the urgent need to create an effective system of preparation of teachers for conditions of higher, post-graduate and additional vocational training
